Design is a trending topic in education. From infographics to Presentation Zen, from telling digital stories to developing iPad apps, we’re seeing the emergence of a new aesthetic “design imperative.” Often what we see as technological problems are really design problems. And, aesthetics can alter our interpretation of data in powerful ways. Why is design important? Should teachers care about design? What role does design play in learning? In this session we will explore the role of design in both technology and education, showcase strategies teachers can use to bring “design thinking” into the classroom, and discuss the implications of aesthetics as a rhetorical tool.
